Up up and away...and late Spring blooms

When our son was here last weekend, he thought it would be a good idea to take aerial photos of the back yard. There isn't much color right now, but it gives you an idea of the layout. I hope to take more photos as more blooming occurs. There actually is a redbud tree on the left side of the flower bed...but it looks like a shrub when looked at from up high. The sheds are courtesy of my hubby - guys have to have their play rooms too you know.

A family outing - teaching the young ones to hunt down their own bugs and worms ~

My Peonies finally came into bloom. I always hope there are some for Memorial Day to share with loved ones no longer with us, but this year they just wouldn't cooperate. The two bushes that I have are from plants my Great Grandma had in Juniata, NE

Red Riding Hood Penstemon swaying with Oxeye Daisies ~

Husker Red Penstemon - I think everyone in Nebraska has a stand of these ~

My one and only blooming Clemantis...so far. This plant was given to me by a dear neighbor, mother of a high school classmate, who passed away much too early in her life.

  1. Well, it wouldn't be right for Huskers NOT to own a plant by that name. I identified a plant my friend has of that. .so I hope to score a small clump off hers. I LOOOVVVVEEE the arial view of your yard. .gorgeous!! After 2 years of blogging, I finally got the notion this spring to take a picture out of the 2nd story window too. It just gives a better, bigger picture. .and does better justice to the layout. Nice work!

  2. Your son had a great idea, Judy! I love your yard! Janet and I are in for a treat. Each of our places are different from the others. I have too many straight lines for boundaries, which makes it hard to figure out where to plant things so they aren't in straight lines, too. I love all your curves!

Should we take photos in each others' yards and maybe Janet's, if she doesn't care, and post them in our blogs? Janet may not want us to, because she has lots of plants that have spread beyond their boundaries, and feels her place is messy. When I go to her place, I am envious of all her space, and I like her paths and flow of things. When she comes over here, she comments on how neat things are.

I am so excited that you are blogging, because other bloggers have posts where they talk about meeting other bloggers, and now, we can do that, too, if you want. I am looking forward to seeing Ben's (from The Deep Middle) place on Father's Day. I don't remember if I told you he is going to be on the Audubon tour. Last spring, I asked him if he wanted to do a plant exchange, but he wasn't interested, so we haven't met each other.

  3. I like your background, too. It's a different one, isn't it?
