I still had berries for the birds
The ground cover had begun to turn green
The Daylilies were beginning to poke up through the dirt
The Daffodils were sprouting
The Iris were making their appearance
I planted lettuce in my wagon
And the cats were happy to hear the Catnip was growing once again
The tree tops in the evenings were so pretty as the sun set
And then Mother Nature pulled a nasty trick on us . . . as she's been known to do in Nebraska
It snowed . . .
and it snowed,
and it snowed . . . and then the power went out
We spent most of yesterday either at the cafe in the local grocery store, or huddled in blankets with candles burning at home . . . for 13 hours, as the temperature in the house went down and the temperature in the refrigerator went up. After 11 inches of snow, we can now see the pavement!
The lettuce seeds are well insulated and will be watered naturally in the next few days
Such is life, in Nebraska . . .
Yes, such is life here! I enjoyed your before and after stories and photos. I am glad I got more seeds in Thursday or Friday.
ReplyDeletePlanning is everything isn't it Sue! I too am so glad I got everything all cleaned up in back, as it will be too muddy for a while to do much of anything.
DeleteAnd here in eastern Colorado, much the same.♥♫
ReplyDeleteYes, I imagine so Marilyn, as it all started out west. Hope the thaw continues for you as it is us. The snow has been plopping on the roof all day as it did when it started Friday night.
DeleteGood luck with that "last snow" idea. We actually haven't even had winter here in the Ohio Valley. Very strange indeed.

We really hadn't either...but it's never too late in Nebraska! Hopefully you'll get a little moisture before the Spring rains. We don't want an over abundance of that!
DeleteQuite a range of weather you've had! I guess Mother Nature just needs to jolt us back to the fact that it's still winter. Hope you are warm!
ReplyDeletePretty amazing change of scenery, Judy! I keep telling myself it IS February!! and it IS Winter, yet! :-)
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I would love a little dose of that!! We have started our 'summer' here with temps in the high 80's to mid 90's with 95-100% humidity every day...thus it begins. School is out for the 'summer' mid-March until mid-June and the brunt of the heat will hit during that time. Glad our house has air con in the bedroom at least-we can work and sweat all day, come home and take a shower [remember we do not have hot water but the cool water feels refreshing when the temp is so high] and then sleep cool with air con and a fan. I also have air con in my sewing room so we have a couple of places to escape to when we are boiling..love and missing you...
ReplyDeleteHi Judy, How are you doing? I have lettuce, peas and such coming up. I hope your wagon crop is, as well. The sedum you gave me last year is doing well. I can't remember if if is 'Jack Black' or 'Black Jack'.
ReplyDeleteBeen a busy couple of weeks Sue! It is Sedum Black Jack that I gave you. As always, I am anxious for everything to sprout up more so I can enjoy the flowers! Thanks for stopping by.
